Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

GroundScope Unit

What does GroundScope do?

GroundScope is a subsurface verification tool that helps crews confirm underground conditions before digging starts and creates documentation that can be reviewed and shared across teams.

Does GroundScope replace 811?

No. groundscope.complements 811 markings by adding a verification step before the bucket hits the dirt.

Does it replace Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)?

No. SUE provides detailed engineering surveys. GroundScope helps verify underground conditions right before digging starts.

When should GroundScope be used?

GroundScope is typically used after 811 markings and before excavation begins to confirm what’s below the surface at the intended dig location.

Many crews also use GroundScope during excavation through progressive scanning to maintain visibility as digging continues.

What utilities can it detect?

GroundScope can find buried pipes, wires, and irrigation.

How long does a typical scan take?

It depends on area size and required confidence level. A standard 10ft scan takes less than 30 seconds. Scan at a pace of 1ft per second. Then allow for the table to process the scan, which takes about 2-seconds per foot scanned.

Do I need a specialist to operate it?

No. GroundScope was designed for ease of use and most operators can learn the workflow in about ten minutes.

Can we use the hardware without the subscription?

The short answer is no. The Basic plan is required to access our AI and use GPS location.

How is GroundScope different from traditional GPR?

GroundScope is designed for fast verification directly at the point of dig. It focuses on ease of use and immediate feedback so crews can confirm underground conditions quickly without requiring a certified technician to interpret the scans.

Utility Risk Cloud

Is the Utility Risk Cloud required to use GroundScope?

Yes. An active subscription is required to operate GroundScope and access AI processing, data storage, and reporting.

What’s the difference between Basic and Pro?

Basic supports core scanning with on-device results and limited storage. Pro adds cloud-based job management, reporting, analytics, and visibility across crews and projects.

Can GroundScope be used without internet?

Yes. Scans can be performed offline. A connection to LTE, WiFi, or Starlink is required to sync data to the cloud.

Can I export scan data and reports?

Yes. Data and reports can be exported in formats such as CSV and GeoJSON for GIS and analysis workflows.

Demo

How long is the demo process?

The process starts with a quick 15–20 minute discovery call. If GroundScope is a fit, we’ll coordinate a live demo based on your use case and availability.

What happens after I submit the form?

Once you submit the form, our team will reach out within 1–2 business days to schedule a discovery call.

From there, we can coordinate a live demo so you can see how GroundScope performs in real jobsite conditions.

What will be covered during the discovery call?

We’ll walk through how GroundScope works, how it fits into your workflow, and answer any questions you have. This helps us tailor the live demo to your specific use case.

Is this a sales call?

No. The goal of the discovery call is to understand your workflow and determine if GroundScope is a fit for your team.

Can we schedule an in-person demo?

Yes. After the discovery call, we can coordinate an in-person demo if GroundScope is a good fit for your team and use case.
